Keeping everyone safe

SAFEGUARDING COMMITMENT

I have many years of experience as a DSP but keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility.

We fully recognise our responsibility to protect and support children during their Learning Adventure with us. The aim of this statement is to show how we safeguard and promote children's welfare, health and safety by fostering an honest, open, caring and supportive climate and by following appropriate protocols.

We will therefore:

  • Establish and maintain an ethos where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk and are listened to.

  • Take children’s worries and concerns seriously.

  • Ensure that children know there are adults around whom they can approach if they are worried or are in difficulty.

  • Ensure every effort is made to establish effective working relationships with teaching staff and colleagues from other agencies.

  • Begin all Learning Adventures with a clear discussion and instructions about how  to keep safe and how to ensure that everyone has a enjoyable and beneficial experience.

  • Make sure our staff are clearly identifiable to children.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels are agreed with the school prior to the Learning Adventure.

  • Request any information about children that may be relevant to ensuring a safe, enjoyable day for everyone.

  • Report any disclosures or concerns to a member of staff from your school which should then  be passed on to the school DSP.

  • Provide a signed and dated record of any concerns.

  • Use digital images on our website only with the permission of your parents.                            (We include a permission slip for this in the confirmation and information pack we send to you before your Learning Adventure).

  • Allow your staff to manage toilet stops and any intimate care requirements.

CODE OF CONDUCT

  • We treat pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to our professional position.

  • We will at all times have due regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being.

  • We show tolerance of and respect for the rights of others.

  • We uphold fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

We are First Aid and EVC trained, with many years of experience in working with children in wild environments.

Full risk assessments are provided for all activities and venues and these are shared with school staff before the activity takes place in the Pre-Adventure (PA) pack.

Working areas are clearly explained and where appropriate, clearly delineated for children.

When moving through woods and hills we make effective use of front and back markers.

We expect the same attitudes and learning behaviours that are expected from your children in school and we will refer any behaviours that either spoil the enjoyment or endanger anyone to school staff.

We expect all children to respect the environments in which they are learning and follow our simple code to ensure that everyone can enjoy the adventure.

  • Listen when others are speaking

  • Ensure your behaviour allows everyone to enjoy the environment

  • Show respect and care for all living things

  • Take only memories and leave only footprints

We request any information (medical/behavioural/learning) about children that may be relevant to ensuring a safe, enjoyable day for everyone.

Learning Adventures staff may administer first aid as required.

It is the responsibility of parents/school to ensure appropriate clothing and footwear is worn for the activity being undertaken and for the weather conditions. (We will provide a kit list for each Learning Adventure)

A copy of these terms and conditions is included in the Pre-Adventure information pack for a school representative to complete and sign.
