Maths in the woods
This Learning Adventure provides opportunities for age appropriate mathematical problem solving across a range of areas. Children think about and find ways of measuring to generate and manipulate real data to solve meaningful problems. Depending upon the needs and interests of the group the children can investigate and build big shapes and think about how effective each might be as shelters.

Older children may tackle The 8 Woods Challenge which requires them to learn how to estimate and pace distance, use a compass and plan and record where they have travelled. This can involve some clasroom based preparation for the challenge.
This can be further linked to writing by asking the children to produce a walking guide for others to follow in their footsteps.
